Pi4 + Touchscreen enclosure

Enclosure for Raspberry Pi 4 & Touchscreen

The vehicle we’re looking to convert to electric is an older vehicle, so it doesn’t have an infotainment system. I decided to use a Raspberry Pi 4 with the 7” touch screen. First though, I wanted to physically harden the Pi 4 & screen system for prototyping.

My son modified a 3D print file for a Raspberry Pi 2 or 3 to make room for the 4 connections – thanks luc_e for a great project file to work with.  Since its not the long term solution, my son just cut out much of the sides to make it easy to plug in USB devices and attach wires to the jumpers.  We didn’t worry about the back cover for the same reason. His updated 3D print file is here

It fits quite well, but it doesn’t quite fully protect the screen. We plan to modify the design to better protect the screen and mate to the car’s dashboard, but that’s a long time away – we will get there eventually.

The next step is to show how we got CarPlay working on it for our infotainment system. I’ll try to post that soon.
